The Brotherhood
A Fraternal Adventure
This is one of Richard Peters' weirder novels. It meanders somewhat: starting off as a simple divorce story and a decision to become a sexual gigolo; to sexy fancy-dress fun; to membership of an intense, secret, sexual Order; and on to a story of possession by angelic and less lofty entities!
The story is set in nineteen-ninety before personal computers were common, when mobile phones were crude and attitudes to homosexuality were less liberal than today.
Chris Hardman, aged twenty, needs money and is drawn to a philanthropic organisation who he thinks might be able to help him in his twin objective to get some money and to become a gigolo.
From his first contact with "The Brotherhood" Chris is bothered by Fraternal Brotherly-ness that is carried to the edge of what he considers homosexual behaviour and his acceptance of male admiration is a struggle for him, having been an inexperienced, but heterosexual, man, up to this point.
"Holding another guy's bollocks is not for me. I'm out of this freaky Order!" I declared. But even as I said it, I felt a sinking heart. Suppose these guys really were going to romp naked with women in some sort of sex orgy? …. the idea of fucking women alongside them was exciting.
Once again, Richard Peters' latest novel is full of homoerotic scenes from the dressing up in sexy fancy-dress costumes to male-only Brotherhood initiations and heterosexual orgies.
Secret exercises, known only to the Brotherhood result in Chris admiring both his own masculinity and that of his especially favourite Brother. In this explicit novel, you may well come to believe that such an homoerotic Brotherly Order can and does exist!

My mind was reeling over the situation of lying between two men and all three of us having rock-hard erections. An erection had always, for me, been either a solitary thing or somewhat ineffective exercise with my unsatisfactory wife.
