Richard Peters’ Books

Just about as good as it gets July 27, 2015

Richard Peters is a master of homoerotica, and his novels explore many variations of male sexuality. "Archie" is a take on the love affair between two unsophisticated young men in the late Victorian/Edwardian era, and Peters captures the nuances of sexual attraction between an upper class lad and a middle class one. The period details are well depicted, and there is a chilling supernatural aspect to the story.

I loved the book, and have recently re-read it. Unlike many erotic novels, those of Richard Peters, for this reader at least, are as . . . . exciting . . . . when read again, as on the first encounter. "Archie" has my recommendation--five stars from me.

I was prompted to write this review on learning that Peters has begun a sequel to "Archie." He says that it seems to be virtually writing itself, and I have to say that novels written in this way are usually fascinating, because the author is really committing himself to the printed page, and in reading them one gets a sense of coming to know the writer. I've had the feeling that this is the case with many of Peters' books, and he is someone I'd really like to know . . . .
